Gregor impresses on Monza debut

In his very first single-seater race and with limited testing, Gregor qualified in a very creditable 17th position from 27 entries in the Formula ACI-CSAI Abarth Championship at Monza in Italy. Driving for the highly respected, BVM race team Gregor was undaunted by the super quick track to set a time within 2 seconds of pole position and adding his best sector times together he was within a second of the fastest lap.

Gregor was confident of making up places in race 1, made a great start and managed to pass 4 cars in the first two laps. Unfortunately when overtaking at the Curva Grande corner he was pushed wide, into the gravel trap and hit the barriers, hard. Gregor received slight bruising to his right knee but the carbon fibre chassis of his car was damaged and he was unable to take part in the second race.

“It was a very exciting but frustrating weekend,” explains Gregor. “I was pleased with our pace in qualifying as we chose to use only one set of tyres so we had a fresh set for the race and I really thought I could finish inside the top 10. My start was good and I was making up places quickly. I had a great exit out of the Variante del Rettifilo chicane and went to pass a car around the outside of Curva Grande but I got squeezed onto the dirty part of the track and spun into the barriers. I was very disappointed that we were not able to take part in race 2 but am really looking forward to the next race in Spain where I’m sure we can achieve a strong result.”

Gregor and the BVM team now head to the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona for testing then racing on the 29th & 30th October.

15 year old Gregor's 1st visit to Monza!

Under the watchfull eye of Ferrari Driver Academy and Mr Alex Stewart in attendance from sponsor Clyde Blowers, Gregor continued improving his times throughout the four 50 minute sessions with a time of 1.53.51 in session 3 (within 1.5 seconds of the quickest driver a more experienced 20 year old!)

The BVM Team saved new tyres for session 4 which was unfortunately disrupted with 3 red flag incidents. This was frustrating for Gregor as he knew he could have improved on his Fastest lap in the final session of the day had the track been clear for him to get a good run.

The test has increased his confidence in the car and he is now looking forward to continuing his improvement during Friday's free practice on race weekend on 14, 15 and 16th of October.
